The new project “Heritage with Care – Cultural Memory for People with Dementia” is starting!

The project “Heritage with Care – Cultural Memory for People with Dementia,” developed by the Alzheimer Bulgaria Association in partnership with the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum “Etar”, is among the eight proposals funded by the Headley SEE Cultural Heritage Fund—a program supporting innovative and inclusive initiatives in Southeast Europe.

Out of a total of 86 applicant organisations from 11 countries, the proposal was recognised for its focus on integrating people with dementia into cultural life.

The project includes the following: the creation of adapted museum programs; training for museum staff; the development and publication of an online handbook containing practical guidelines and best practices for working with people with dementia in a museum setting; as well as other activities aimed at inclusion and understanding.

The project, which the commission has recognised as “innovative,” demonstrates how cultural heritage can serve as a tool for social inclusion, preserving dignity, and raising public awareness.

This project is funded by The Headley Southeast Europe Cultural Heritage Fund.
