About us

Alzheimer Bulgaria is an association of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia, as well as their families, caregivers, and professionals. It was registered in December 2003 and has been registered with the Ministry of Justice since January 2004. We are members of Alzheimer Europe, Eurocarers, the Global Dementia Friends Movement. We have officially registered 2 branches of the organization in Bulgaria – Gotse Delchev and Pleven and there are volunteers who share their personal experiences in the towns of Varna, Lovech, Plovdiv, Lukovit, Topolovgrad. In 2012, the work of the organization was presented as an example of ‘Good Practice’ in the European Parliament on a project by Active Ageing Citizens – Best Practices for the Amendment of Article 38 on reimbursement of the Medicines of the Ministry of Health.

Our main goals are:

  • improving the quality of life of patients with dementia and their families;
  • changing the public perception of dementia patients;
  • disseminating information and raising awareness on dementia among families and authorities;
  • advocacy for social and health policies specifically targeting dementia patients and their families.
