“Memorable”

In December 2024 the Alzheimer Bulgaria Association started working on the new “Memorable” project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme. In this project, the association assumes the role of main coordinator of a European project for the first time, thus showing its expertise and opening itself to new opportunities.

The project is implemented in partnership with organisations from the Netherlands (AFEdemy – Academy on Age-Friendly Environments in Europe BV), Germany (ISIS Institut für Soziale Infrastruktur gemeinnützige GmbH), Portugal (SHINE 2Europe) and Ireland (Dublin City University).

The “Memorable” project aims to promote a dementia-friendly society by training volunteers, (informal) carers, artists and arts professionals to make cultural institutions dementia-friendly. The project will develop educational materials to raise awareness and provide skills to create dementia-friendly cultural spaces.

“Non-medicinal therapies to maintain cognitive abilities of people affected by dementia”

In January 2024, the project “Non-medical therapies” of the Alzheimer Bulgaria, funded by the TELUS International Community Board in Bulgaria, started.

The project aimed to raise awareness of working with older people affected by dementia among university students studying in the fields of psychology and social work.

Nearly 30 students from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, New Bulgarian University and Medical University – Pleven, who showed sincere interest and desire to learn about working with the elderly, took part in the project. They received specially developed training, after which they had the opportunity to apply what they had learned in a residential service for elderly people in Sofia and in the Pleven area. The project ended with extremely positive feedback from both the students and their lecturers, as well as the professionals in the residential services.
