Alzheimer Bulgaria Association starts working on the EMPROVE project (EMpowering PROfessional relatiVEs in Europe). The EMPROVE project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. It will be implemented over a period of two years and aims to improve the quality of care for elderly people with dementia by providing a training course for professionals working in this field.
The kick-off meeting for the EMPROVE project took place on the 14th and 15th of December in Timișoara, Romania. Representatives of all the participating organizations took part in the meeting:
- Tutunaru Association (Romania)
- CPIP – Center for Promoting Lifelong Learner (Romania)
- EELI – European Education and Learning Institute (Greece)
- CEIPES – International Centre for the Promotion of Education and Development (Italy)
- Alzheimer Bulgaria Association
The participants got to know each other and presented their organization’s work and activities, Afterwards, various topics concerning the work on the project were discussed. Important aspects such as budget, target groups, and timeline were presented and a clear strategy for the upcoming activities was defined.

The first task within the project is the development of a methodology containing essential knowledge and techniques necessary for the improvement of the quality of life and the self-sufficiency of the elderly – this includes information concerning physical and mental health, finances, local resources, and health services, as well as work with the families.
By the year 2047, it is expected that about 21% of women and 17% of men over the age of 65 will be affected by some kind of physical or mental disability – this shows that the work on this project is а very responsible task. Care for the elderly will become even more important for our society in the future.
We will continue to provide current information on the EMPROVE project in the following months.
