In 2022, Alzheimer Bulgaria took part in the Ministry of Education’s project “Student Practices – Phase 2″, funded by Operational Programme “Science and Education”.

The project gave three students the opportunity to join the association as interns and to get more familiar with the work and the cause of the organization. The interns were selected from different majors – political science, psychology, international relations – to learn about dementia from different angles and to work in different areas: improving social policies for people with dementia, implementing services related to care, and improvement of the emotional and mental state of people affected by dementia, as well as working at the international level to exchange best practices and cooperation in the field of care for people with dementia and their relatives and caregivers and improving their living conditions.

One of our interns, Gergana Radanova, who is a psychology student, will continue to work in the association to contribute to its cause.

She shared that what motivates her to continue working in the association is the goal to talk more about the condition that can befall anyone as they get elder among people her age: “We shouldn’t neglect the fact that it can happen to anyone, so it’s important to be respectful and to be able to recognize and implement the right measures to communicate with those affected, and for early prevention among our society.”

Alzheimer Bulgaria is looking forward to the next phase of the project to give young people the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a Dementia Friendly Society. The involvement of students in the association brings idealism, motivation, and hope.
