“Strong Communities Without Age Barriers”

The “Strong Communities Without Age Barriers” project, implemented by the Alzheimer Bulgaria Association in partnership with the Razvitie 1892 Community Centre in Byala Slatina, with the financial support of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme, aims to promote the active participation and social inclusion of people aged 65 and over. The project places particular emphasis on people living with dementia and older adults from the Roma community. Through training activities, information sessions, cultural and intergenerational initiatives, and the establishment of a local action group, the project will strengthen dialogue between citizens, institutions, and local authorities, help reduce social isolation, and contribute to building more inclusive and age-friendly communities in the Municipality of Byala Slatina and the surrounding area.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme, the Mechanism for Civic Engagement and Transparency (MCE) 2024–2029, the ‘Citizen Empowerment and Engagement’ grant scheme (CETF-2025-GFL1).

“Ageism in Bulgaria”

The “Ageism in Bulgaria” project aims to raise public awareness of age discrimination and promote respect and solidarity between generations. Over an 18-month period, the Alzheimer Bulgaria Association and its partners will carry out a nationwide sociological survey, analyse good European practices, organise training sessions for young people and adults aged 65+, hold roundtable discussions, and implement a public awareness campaign. The project will also develop policy recommendations for public institutions, the media, and civil society organisations to help combat ageism and contribute to building a more inclusive society where age is recognised as a source of experience and value rather than a reason for discrimination.
